When you use SimpleClause, we may collect: your email address when you create an account, make a purchase, or ask us to email you a breakdown; whether you chose to receive occasional tips by email; the legal text you submit for simplification; your IP address, which we log to prevent abuse and enforce rate limits; and basic usage data such as the number of simplifications performed. We do not collect your name, phone number, or physical address unless you voluntarily provide it. Payment details are handled by Lemon Squeezy and never reach our servers.
We use your information to provide and improve the SimpleClause service, process payments through Lemon Squeezy, send you receipts, account-related emails, and any breakdowns or summaries you ask us to email, send Pro alerts such as red-flag warnings and renewal reminders, and monitor usage to prevent abuse. If you opt in to tips, we may send you occasional emails about reading contracts; every one includes an unsubscribe link.
The legal text you paste into SimpleClause is sent to OpenAI's API to generate your explanation. By default, we do not keep a permanent copy of your text. It is stored only when you use a feature that saves it: if you save a result to your History or Library, it stays in your account until you delete it or your account; if you create a share link, the shared result is stored and can be viewed by anyone who has the link; and if you ask us to email a breakdown, the text is included in that email. If you use the Listen feature, the explanation is sent to Google's text-to-speech service. OpenAI and Google may retain submitted text under their own policies. Please do not submit documents containing sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, bank account details, or medical records.
SimpleClause uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you have enabled analytics through our platform, anonymous usage data may be collected to help us improve the service.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We share data only with the following service providers who help us operate SimpleClause: Supabase (database and authentication), OpenAI (text processing), Lemon Squeezy (payment processing), Resend (sending emails), Google Cloud (text-to-speech, when you use the Listen feature), and Vercel (website hosting). Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your data.
Your account information and anything you have saved are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be removed from our systems within 30 days. If you gave us your email address to receive a breakdown, we keep it until you ask us to delete it; unsubscribing stops tips emails. Logs used for rate limiting and abuse prevention, such as email and IP address records, are kept only as long as needed for that purpose. Anonymized usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To make a request, email us at privacy@simpleclause.me and we will respond within 14 days.
SimpleClause is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us immediately.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of SimpleClause after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
